Why did I get this alert?
Because it looks likely that your child is regularly disabling the Family Zone VPN. The Family Zone VPN is an important part of your child's internet filter.
We monitor the status of your filter and the things it needs to work. If we detect that the Family Zone VPN has been disabled we turn it back on automatically. We create a Red Alert if we notice it happening often.
What do I need to do?
- Grab the device
- Make sure that we are filtered or monitoring the device by going to http://www.home.tools in the browser.
- We also recommend having a discussion with your child about why they are attempting to bypass your internet filter.
We will generally try to reinstate the VPN remotely however on iOS devices you may need to reinstate Connect On Demand
What is my child doing to tamper with the VPN?
Your child is likely toggling “Connect on Demand” on the VPN setting on their iPhone/iPad.
Why can children turn off the VPN?
Apple doesn’t allow us to lock this down. We do monitor and attempt to auto-fix however we need to let you know if a pattern of activity happens.
Why would my child tamper with Family Zone on their device?
Most likely to bypass our controls or to hide what they are doing. This may be because the controls are too strict or that they wish to do improper things. Talk to your child and find out what they are trying to access and, if applicable, adjust controls accordingly.
How do I deal with regular behavior like this?
Breakdowns in behavior are an opportunity to communicate and engage with your child.
Are there settings that may discourage my child from violating controls?
Yes, customers with a Premium subscription can set consequences for when children violate controls.
I received the notification but I can’t see a To do in my account. Why?
This usually means another user with parent access has closed the To do. If you are at all concerned, you should check the device.
