Borrow a Device With a PIN

Parents set up PINs to allow Family Members to share Devices more easily. Kids use their PIN to borrow a Device for 1 hour without having to ask a Parent to approve the request. The cyber safety settings adjust to match the age group of the person borrowing the Device.

From a phone or tablet

In the Child's iOS or Android Device:

  1. In the Connect App, tap Borrow this device 
  2. Tap on your name 
  3. Tap Enter PIN 
  4. Enter your 4-digit PIN 
  5. You will see the
    Borrower's name
    Time the borrow ends
    Routine (Play, Study, School or Sleep access)

From a laptop or desktop computer

Use these steps when Connect has been installed on a Windows, Mac or Chromebook computer. Laptops will send data identifying the current user and a request to borrow from Connect. 

On a Windows, Mac or Chromebook:

  1. Click on the Family Zone Connect icon
    Chrome - top-right in the Extensions area
    Mac - top-right in the Menu Bar
    Windows - in the Taskbar (shown here)
  2. Click REQUEST A CHANGE 
  3. Click BORROW THIS DEVICE 
  4. Click in the names and select your name
  5. Type in your 4-digit PIN 
  6. Click BORROW 
  7. A Borrow successful message is displayed
    Close any open browser tabs

The Device access and web content filtering will be set to your Family Zone settings for 1 hour. When the time runs out, the Device filtering will return to the Device Owner. The Device Owner or another Family Member can borrow the Device before the time runs out. A Parent can also log into their app and end the borrowing.

A Note to Parents

A device borrowed with a Parent's PIN will be unfiltered and unmonitored.

If you want to allow your Child to access blocked content, use borrowing the Device with your account as the last option. Try this first:
