Primary Parent Responsibility

The Primary Parent has the responsibility for managing the Child and the Shared Parenting. Sometimes the Shared Parent should become the Primary Parent. Here's how the Primary Parent can give the responsibilities and move to the Shared Parent role.

On the Primary Parent's Android phone or tablet:

  1. Open Chrome or a web browser
  2. Go to
Sign in with your email and password
  3. Tap the menu icon > Users > Family
  4. Tap the right arrow until you see your Child
    Tap your Child's name
  5. Tap Settings
  6. Move down to SHARED PARENTING
  7. Tap the blue text "change the primary parent"
  8. As needed, select the Parent's name if there is more than one Shared Parent
    Tap INVITE
  9. At the confirmation message, tap OK
    Close the web browser

Notice you can resend or cancel your invitation for the other Parent to take charge of the Shared Parenting responsibilities. Once they accept the invitation, they can edit your Child's details, add or remove Shared Parents, and add mobile Devices to your Child's account. You will become the other Parent and will not have access to these functions.

As the other Parent, you can take control of monitoring your Child's online activity when they come to your home. You will receive Alerts and have access to Weekly Reports and Snapshots.

What is a parent versus a shared parent?

A parent in Connect is a guardian in the home who is allowed to change the monitoring settings and edit family details.

A shared parent in Connect is a guardian typically outside the parent home with a separate Family Zone account with different monitoring rules for a child's activity.

A parent or shared parent can be any guardian, such as grandparents or babysitters.

Adding or removing parent or shared parent access uses the Family menu. The first parent (primary parent) adds shared parents through the family section.
